One of the most common bullet journal questions that I have asked and heard is “should I use a daily log or weekly log”. When I started in 2016, I couldn’t find any information about the weekly log on the official Bullet Journal website. Apparently, the weekly log is not a critical module of the bullet journal but was merely a modification of the weekly log.
Now, that doesn’t mean that a weekly log isn’t useful. There are plenty of advantages to using weekly layouts.

Daily logs aren’t perfect either. Sometimes, they just don’t work well for some.
Choosing between weekly and daily logs really depend on the bullet journalist so keep reading to learn more.
You should use daily logs if…
1. You don’t have time to create a layout
Weekly layouts do take a bit of time to create – even if you use a minimalist design. If you don’t have time to sit down and create a layout, then you shouldn’t use a weekly log.
2. You’re using a small notebook
This is pretty self-explanatory. If you’re using a small notebook, you wouldn’t have enough space to accommodate a whole week in one spread.
3. Your days are sporadic and unpredictable
Daily logs are designed to adapt to the ever-changing needs. Because you are not obligated to write, you can always skip a day, or even a week.
4. You write a lot
If you think you’re the type of person who writes a lot of thoughts and tasks, then daily logging would be best for you. You can write a full page of notes and tasks one day and never run out of space to write. Daily logs give you more freedom to write regardless of length.
If none of these apply to you, then maybe you should give weekly logs a shot.
You should use weekly logs if…
1. You want to see an overview of your week
The obvious advantage of a weekly log is that you can fit seven days of the week in one page. You can easily view entries from the past couple of days or the days ahead.
2. You like planning ahead of time
Weekly logs are designed similarly to a standard planner. If you are more comfortable with writing things in advance, then weekly logs might be better for you.
3. You like consistency
If you want to keep your pages neat and organized, maybe weekly logs are better for you. You can create your layouts ahead of time using the same design (especially if you know that it’s the perfect one for you).
4. You enjoy designing layouts
Designing layouts have become a huge part of the bullet journal experience (at least for some). Plan With Me videos’s popularity within the bullet journal community is proof of that. Some people use their bullet journal as a creative outlet and decorating bullet journal layouts is great way to do that.
You see, there is no wrong way to bullet journal. The decision between using daily logs and weekly logs depend on person’s personality and the way they utilize their bullet journal. If you find that one of these methods don’t work for you, then it’s all right to switch to the other. Always remember that the Bullet Journal system consists of trial and error – you will never know what works for you unless you try.
