March has been an exciting month for film photography professionals and enthusiasts. Three players in the film industry announced new products all in one week!

Kodak

Kodak announced that the Kodak Gold 200 will be available in medium format (120 film). While the film emulsion is nothing new, Kodak’s decision to cater to medium format film photographers got the film community excited.

The new 120 format Kodak Professional Gold 200 is an affordable, entry-level color film featuring an ideal combination of warm saturated color, fine grain, and high sharpness.  It is designed for photographers shooting at any level for daylight and flash capture.

CineStill

A day after Kodak’s announcement, CineStill (well-known for their 800t) also announced their introduction of a new color film, the CineStill 400Dynamic.

CineStill 400D is a fine grain film that delivers a soft color palette with natural saturated color and rich, warm skin tones. The film has a wide dynamic range, with a base sensitivity of ISO 400 but can be rated from 200 to 800, and it can be pushed up to 3200. This makes the film highly versatile, suitable for any lighting condition, any event, and can be used either outdoors or in the studio.

This will be available in both 35mm and 120 film – with a possible 4×5 large format if the campaign is successful (already at 81% as of writing).

Japan Camera Hunter

And possibly out of nowhere, Japan Camera Hunter (JCH) also announced their Fugufilm 400 on Instagram. On March 25, they officially announced it on their website.

FuguFilm 400 is, we believe, the first completely new reversal film emulsion in nearly two decades. The film has been conceived and made completely from scratch, and has taken a great deal of time to reach a level we are happy with. And this was certainly hampered by Covid, which ended our plans for a release in late 2020, and mid 2021.
