Read: Fountain Pen friendly notebooks that aren’t Rhodia or Tomoe River
What’s inside?
The sampler contains 7 pocket-sized fountain pen friendly notebooks. There are 2 dot grid and 5 lined notebooks.
- Goulet Tomoe River (dot grid)
- Rhodia No. 12 Dot Pad | Buy on Amazon
- Traveler’s Company Refill 001 (lined) | Dot grid review
- Rhodia Lined Pad
- Maruman Mnemosyne B7 notepad (lined) | Buy on Amazon
- Apica CD-5 (lined) | Buy on Amazon
- Clairefontaine Staplebound (lined) | Buy on Amazon
These are all passport and pocket sized notebooks which are the small enough for notebook sampling. The Apica CD is the smallest, almost card sized. Rhodia pads were the thickest.
Pen Tests
We did a quick pen test using different writing tools and an ink splatter to test the fountain pen friendliness of the paper.
- Tombow Mechanical Pencil
- Paper Mate Ink Joy (ballpoint pen)
- Pilot G-2 (gel pen)
- TWSBI 580 (fountain pen) with Noodler’s Black Swan in English Roses
- Lamy 2000 (fountain pen) with Jacques Herbin Vert Atlantide
- Sharpie (marker)
- Kokuyo Beetle Tip (highighter) – Regular | Pastel
- Monteverde Capri Blue (fountain pen ink)
Favorites
These notebooks are great but one that stood out was the Maruman Mnemosyne.
It wasn’t just the paper quality but also the overall design of the notebook. I am not a huge fan of lined notebooks but this one just had something different. The quality, the sectioned ruling, and the perforated pages. Chef’s kiss.
Why you should get a set of your own
If you want to try the best type of paper for you, you should definitely get a sampler set. These are small and thin notebooks that don’t take up a lot of space. By trying these notebooks, you will understand your preference – do you like thin or thick paper, do you like smooth or toothy paper, etc.
The Goulet Pen Co. is well known for fountain pens and their choice of paper is without a doubt, good for fountain pen use.
