In My Bullet Journal Key, I explained the Bullet Journal Keys that I use and why I used hollow check boxes instead of dots for actionable tasks. I’ve been using that system for 2 years but decided to change it two weeks ago.
Why Change?
The answer is a bit strange and not at all about the bullet journal system. I changed my bullet journal key because I recently bought fountain pens. That’s pretty much it. Initially, I wanted to use the fountain pens to practice my handwriting but then decided that I should use one of those for every day use. My pick for my everyday carry and Tombow Mono Drawing Pen replacement is a Pilot Metropolitan (Fine nib).

The thing about fountain pens is that they write thicker and wetter than the 0.28 Uniball Signo DX and the 01 Tombow Mono Drawing Pen. When I tried using the Pilot Metropolitan along with my existing keys, it took a bit longer for the boxes to try after I shaded them. I had to wait for a minute for it to completely dry as to not ruin the papers when I close my notebook.
Back to Basics
I reverted back to the original bullet journal keys because waiting for the shaded boxes to dry was not ideal for me and rapid logging. The only challenge with the task bullets is its readability. Empty boxes caught my eye more and somehow pushed me to complete the tasks at hand.
I’ve only tried the classic bullet journal key for a week and a half (yes, I never tried it the first time I bullet journaled) but so far, I have no complaints. I think I will try this until the end of the month and then assess how it works for me and I’ll let you know how it goes.
