I have enjoyed stationery for as long as I remember. I remember that my mom used to buy me stationery and I would write short stories based on the design. When I received a stationery set from LA Paper Lover, it reminded me of one of the first times I fell in love with stationery.
I want to start off with how gorgeous the packaging was (I don’t have a photo of it). I was greeted with a typewritten (or what I believe is typewritten) note from the store owner, Emeralda.
This stationery set looks scented but it’s not. However, it does remind me of the scented stationery sets that I used to own. Again, very nostalgic.

📃 Let’s talk about quality…
Paper quality of both LA Paper Lover stationery sets is just wonderful. Their weight is 70lbs and some (the “pansy designs”) are 80 lbs. The foil designs around the stationery is also of high-quality. You can tell that there were little to no compromises into creating these stationery sets.
I thoroughly enjoyed the size of these stationery sets. I’m not so fond of letter sized paper for correspondence because I know that I wouldn’t always fill them out. The A6/A7 sheets make good sizes for short notes – thank you notes, congratulatory notes, birthday greetings, etc.
The quality of envelops match the quality of the writing sheets. In the Telegram set, the white one was the thickest and something that’s definitely best for a special occasion.
🖋Can you use fountain pens with it?
When Esmeralda reached out to me, she mentioned that these stationery sets were primarily used by calligraphers and not fountain pen users (yes, there is a difference). Since it isn’t advertised as fountain pen friendly, I wouldn’t dock it points for not being fountain pen friendly.
However, as a fountain pen user, I naturally used a fountain pen to write notes.
I made sure that I used fountain pens that were relatively well-behaved. I didn’t use any of those slow drying inks, sheening inks, or shimmering inks – just to be safe.

- Sailor Manyo Nekoyanagi (in photo) with a TWSBI Eco
It wasn’t too bad. I used a TWSBI Eco with a 1.1 stub just to make sure I used more ink. No bleed through or feathering, at least for relatively “regular” inks. Maybe don’t expect too much shading or sheening (but I will try next time, if I have more paper to spare).
Handwritten Notes
The first note kind of inspired me to keep writing letters even if it’s not too lengthy. The paper quality and the design definitely kept me going. Since I’ve received these sets, I’ve used them to write simple notes to my friends – a couple who had recently been engaged, a friend who celebrated her birthday, and another couple whose wedding I’ve attended.
I didn’t technically snail mail it to them but I did hand it to them in person. Handwritten notes definitely have a more personal touch than a photo captioned on social media. Stationery sets just like the LA Paper Lover’s Not Your Granny’s Airmail and Telegram are definitely something worth looking into.
