I’m no stranger to the Ink Studio line. Prior to purchasing this ink, I had already 2 bottles from this line – the 264 and the 760. I didn’t think that they were that great because they were kind of flat colors and I thought the rest of the inks in the line were the same. I didn’t know how “special” these inks really were until I stumbled upon a blog with all 100 inks swabbed – Macchiato Man’s Sailor Ink Studio Overview.
I bookmarked that blog post and even took some screenshots of ink swabs just in case I happen to pass by another store that sold them. I had my eye on a few colors like the 123, 162, 441 for example. Unfortunately, these inks were not available in that Sailor Ink Studio spice display rack.

I wanted a weird and tricky ink from the Ink Studio line because this sold around ¥1200 (~$10+tax) for a 20ml bottle – expensive! I didn’t want to purchase a bottle with a shade that I already had so I went for the color that I wouldn’t have even imagined of owning – yellow.
Ink Properties

Score Rationale
Value for Money – 5/10
What I definitely don’t like about this ink is that it’s expensive. It sells for at least $0.75 per ml (and that’s just by converting Yen to USD). If you check other retail stores that sell Sailor inks (like Anderson Pens), they sell a 20ml Sailor Shikiori for $15 so they’d most likely sell at the same price once they hit major retailers in North America.
Other premium inks like the Pilot Iroshizuku inks are priced at $0.40 per ml ($20 for 50ml bottle) – and they have gorgeous ink bottles.
Dry Time – 8/10
This ink dries quickly but isn’t necessarily quick dry. I find that this is the average time for inks to dry anyway.
Performance on Paper (performance on various papers) – 10/10
I tried this ink with a medium nib Jinhao x750 on fountain pen friendly papers and also a notebook which uses recycled paper.
Readability – 6/10
Yellow inks aren’t really known for their readability but this ink is relatively readable because of the dark brown sheen.

Overall Thoughts
I was expecting this ink to fall more on the gold spectrum rather than this confused mustard color. My experience with the Sailor Ink Studio line is that the color on the label isn’t exactly what you’re going to see on paper – it can be lighter or darker. 670 is definitely a strange ink because it writes in a different shade of yellow when used on other types of paper. It’s strange but doesn’t impress me that much.
