In 2019, Lomography Metropolis was the first new color negative film to have been produced in 5 years. The Metropolis is their 3rd film under the LomoChrome product line. However, this film is quite different from its predecessors, the LomoChrome Turquoise and LomoChrome Purple.
In the sample below, you will notice the effects of the LomoChrome.
The LomoChrome Metropolis is quite different and looks less cross-processed.
Instead, it looks like a VSCO filter slapped onto film.
Compared to the Turquoise and the Purple, the Metropolis probably appealed to a larger audience (me included). I wasn’t a huge fan of the first two LomoChrome films but this one caught my eye. You can tell that it did because I purchased a couple of rolls myself.
Sample photos
Lomography Metropolis adds a desaturation effect to achieve that muted tone look.
In the next few photos, you will notice how desaturated the reds and oranges are. The first image is taken at the Red Rock Amphitheater in Colorado.
#nofilter indeed. It really does something to make a poorly composed photo look a little bit better.
The verdict
Metropolis is definitely a unique film. It just has so much character and adds a little flavor to your photos.
Personally, I would only use this occasionally perhaps for street photography. I wouldn’t use this on landscapes because of the fact that looks less vivid and less alive.
This film is on the pricier side as well at $12 per roll.
However, I would recommend this to beginners, especially the younger ones. I feel that they will appreciate film photography because of the differentiating factor of Metropolis.
