The Traveler’s Notebook is one heck of a system. It’s lightweight, versatile, and most importantly – customizable. Just like anything customizable, there are a lot of accessories to choose from. If you’re just starting with your TN, you’re going to be overwhelmed for sure (or not). Personally, when I first started, I wanted to purchase the entire Traveler’s Company TN collection. That wouldn’t be practical, would it – so here are a few must-have accessories for your new Traveler’s Notebook.
Of course, the first accessory that one must have is a notebook refill – or an “insert”. The inserts are usually included when you purchase a Traveler’s Notebook regardless of brand. They are also essential to the Traveler’s Notebook experience so we’ll leave those out of the list.
Elastic connecting bands
If you’re planning on using multiple refills/inserts in your Traveler’s Notebook, you need to get yourself some elastic bands. Elastic bands are not only for the notebooks, they can also be used to connect other non-notebook inserts such as pouches (which we’ll discuss further later).
Just make sure that you get the right size for your Traveler’s Notebook. If you have a regular sized one, get the longer elastic bands. If you own a passport sized, then stick to the passport-sized one.
Binder clip or the Page Anchor
Traveler’s Notebooks won’t lay flat because of the soft leather cover. To keep your notebook flat, you might need something to hold the notebook flat like a binder clip. I recommend getting a wire binder clip so that you can see the text behind the clip – and also it also gives a classy and minimalist feel to your Traveler’s Notebook.
The Page Anchor is also an interesting type of binder clip so if you’re not into the traditional clips, you might want to try this.
Plastic or Fabric Pouch
The TN won’t come with a sleeve at the back of the notebook so you won’t have a place for small pieces of paper. You’ll definitely need these pouches so that you can securely store small pieces of paper such as receipts, tickets, or stickers.
The plastic zipper pocket is more common type of pouch because you can see what’s inside immediately because it’s transparent. It usually has two different flaps – one zippered and one sleeve.
The fabric pouch on the other hand has a similar function but differs in materials. It’s not transparent, obviously, so you wouldn’t be able to see the contents of the pouch immediately. Because of the canvas material, expect this to be thicker than the clear zipper pocket and therefore, can potentially add bulk to your Traveler’s Notebook. Bonus: you can always toss it in the laundry if it needs cleaning.
Kraft folder
Need more storage? Kraft folders are a great addition to your Traveler’s Notebook. It’s a bit similar to the plastic or fabric pouch but because of the cardstock material on the kraft folder, your documents will tend to crease less. Great for maps, boarding passes, or tickets.
Pen Clip
Always keep your pen handy with pen clips or pen loops. There are plenty to choose from for the Traveler’s Notebooks. You can opt to get the leather one that matches and clips to your leather cover.
