New Film Products from Ilford Photo

Film is not dead! Film manufacturer, Ilford Photo, launched a new line of products on October 24th. While they already have a wide array of products, they are still helping keep film alive by bringing new products that will appeal to both beginners and advanced film photographers around the world.

Ortho Plus Black and White Film (80 ISO)

Available in 35mm and 120 format

Ilford already has a wide array of black and white films but that did not stop them from creating a new one. The new film has an ISO of 80 which means the output will be sharp and also have a finer grain. This type of film will be excellent for landscape photography.

Technical specifications from the website:

  • ISO 80 (ISO 40 in Tungsten light)
  • Fine grain, sharp orthochromatic black & white film
  • Can be processed / handled in deep red safelight
  • 35mm, 120 Roll and sheet film available

Multigrade V RC Deluxe Photographic Paper

Ilford also announced an upgrade to their Multigrade photographic paper. The new product is the 5th generation of their famous Multigrade RC paper, which was launched 25 years ago. The

The new photo papers are reportedly better with deeper blacks and a more consistent contrast.

According to the product page,

Key differences: Generation 5 has a slightly warmer base tint, better blacks for greater depth, improved mid-grade spacing and a smoother sensometric curve providing more uniform contrast throughout thetonal range.

The Multigrade V is ideal for both beginners and advanced users.

Technical specifications:

  • Medium weight 190gsm resin coated paper
  • Neutral base tint
  • Choice of glossy, satin or pearl surfaces
  • Available in sheets and rolls

Ilford & Paterson Film Processing Starter Kit

If you are interested in trying to process our own films, keep a look out for the Processing Starter Kit. Ilford partnered with Paterson, a manufacturer known for their darkroom equipment, to build this product.

The kit will contain everything you need to develop your own film. All you need is a dark space (light tight) and some film to process.

  • 1 x ILFORD 35mm Film Cassette Opener,
  • 1 x ILFORD Simplicity Film Starter Pack (containing developer, stop bath, fixer and wetting agent),
  • 2 x Paterson Super System 4 Reels,
  • 1 x Paterson Universal Film Tank,
  • 3 x Paterson 600ml Graduates,
  • 1 x Paterson Thermometer,
  • 1 x Paterson Stirrer,
  • 2 x Paterson set of 2 film clips.

The starter kit is set to be made available for sale in November.
