I’ve discussed quite a lot about the basics of bullet journaling so now I want to talk about the “add-ons”. The add-ons are pages that were not discussed in The Bullet Journal Method but are frequently used by the folks in the Bullet Journal community.
If you do a quick Pinterest search for “May Bullet Journal ideas” (for example), the first few things that you will see are cover pages – lots of them.
Let’s talk about them for a second…
Cover pages are basically introductory pages to your monthly pages. Typically, they are made of drawings or hand lettering of the current month. Sometimes, they set monthly themes (take AmandaRachLee for example).
Do cover pages serve any functional purpose?
Well the short answer is no. This page does not serve any purpose in terms of productivity. It’s an aesthetic addition to the bullet journal. It does, however, exercise one’s creativity.
I have only recently started using a cover page as a creative outlet. Some bullet journalists decorate their monthly spread with doodles, calligraphy, or lettering. I tried that a few months ago but I realized that I needed the entire page for monthly logs. I did want a small space where I could decorate so having a cover page was me hitting two birds with one stone.
Here are 24 ideas for both the creative and the minimalist bullet journalists.
Creative Cover Pages
I admire bullet journalists who use a cover page. It takes dedication, talent, and a great deal of effort. I have rounded up a few of the most creative pages I could find. I’ve also added links to their supplies in case you’re interested of purchasing the same.
Cover Pages For Those Who Can’t Draw
Can’t draw well (like me) but want to try cover pages? Don’t worry, I have 12 more minimalist styles that are simple yet creative.
Cover pages are purely aesthetic and they’re wonderful to look at. Just be reminded that this is not an essential feature of the bullet journal. Do not allow the absence of a cover page hinder you from planning your month or bullet journaling in general.
How do you feel about cover pages? Like them? Hate them?
