We know you enjoyed last year’s list of Tomoe River Notebooks to Try. So we are back with a few more Tomoe River notebooks to try this year!
Pebble Stationery Co. Cahier Tomoe River Notebook
Pebble Stationery Co. is one of the few newcomers that caught our eye last year. For one thing, for every Tomoe River notebook that you purchase from them, they will donate one pencil to a child in need (via Pens for Kids).
The A5 Cahier has 120 numbered pages, a nice card stock for cover, and a very subtle dot grid. It’s very lightweight and durable so you can carry it around without worrying about the weight or ruining the notebook.
Pen Gallery LiveNotes
Pen Gallery is a pen and paper retailer operating in Malaysia. Aside from fountain pens, they also sell their own Tomoe River notebooks – called the LiveNotes.
Typically, Tomoe River inserts costs around $8-10 a piece. The LiveNotes (64-page insert), on the other hand, only costs $3 – and it is not cheaply made at all.
They also have other Tomoe River notebook offerings such as the standard A5 staple-bound, a staple-bound passport sized notebook, and a wire-bound Tomoe River notebook.
Endless Works Recorder
If you are looking for something that looks like a Leuchtturm or Rhodia but with Tomoe River paper, then you should definitely try the Recorder by Endless Works.
This notebook is perfect for those who use fountain pens for bullet journaling. It has the usual ribbon bookmark, expandable inner pocket, and the leatherette hard cover – just like the standard A5 notebooks. It uses the much-thicker Tomoe River at 68gsm so there is less ghosting compared to the standard 52gsm paper.
The Recorder comes in 4 different colors (black, blue, red, green) and has different rulings – lined, dotted, graph, and blank.
Tekukor B6 Tomoe River
Not into A5 or TN sized notebooks? You might want to try the Tekukor Tomoe River notebook!
B6 Tomoe River notebooks are a bit of a rare sight because most of the notebook offerings are usually A5/passport/TN sized. Not only does it have a relatively unconventional style, it also has the standard notebook features such as the back pocket, elastic loop, and ribbon bookmarks.
The Tekukor Tomoe River notebook is also one of the very few Tomoe River notebooks that you can buy on Amazon – so if like this and you want to maximize your Amazon Prime membership, get one now!
Galen Leather Everyday Book
Galen Leather, known for their handcrafted leather goods and woodwork, also joined the notebook game in the latter part of 2019.
Their initial offering was the 52 gsm Tomoe River notebook called the Everyday Book. It comes in 4 different sizes: A5, regular TN, passport, and pocket – all sewn-spined notebooks with 128 pages.
Most recently, they came out with the 400-page (200 sheets) A5 Tomoe River notebook which is a good option for long-form journaling or bullet journal.
All of their notebooks are blank but they come with graph and lined guides. Don’t worry – 52 gsm paper is thin so you can see through the page as you use the writing guide.
JetPens Kanso Sasshi
Japanese stationery online retailer, JetPens, has their own line of Tomoe River notebooks too. The Kanso Sasshi booklets come in 4 variants: the booklet, the regular TN (cream and white dotted), and the A5. In true Japanese fashion, these booklets are simple and minimalist – staple-bound with a cardstock cover.
Honorable Mentions
The next couple of notebooks are OG Tomoe River notebook brands. They’ve been around for quite some time but they are still worth mentioning on this list.
Nanami Seven Seas
An oldie but goodie – that’s what the Nanami Tomoe River notebooks are. If you ask someone who has been in the fountain pen hobby for years what the best Tomoe River notebook is out there, they might suggest the Nanami Seven Seas (A5).
One of the classic Seven Seas notebook is the Crossfield. It has an interesting design because instead of graph or dot grid – it uses crosshairs instead. Best of both worlds, right? They do have other options such as the lined, dotted, and blank notebooks.
Aside from the Seven Seas series, Nanami Paper also has other formats – known as the Cafe notebooks – which are notebooks that are in A6 and B6 in size.
Taroko Enigma A5 Notebook
Taroko Design has been around for quite some time and might be one of the better known Tomoe River notebooks around. They’re relatively affordable (384 pages for roughly $20) and they’re reliable as a brand. Some of their notebooks even have a section to log fountain pen inks!
They also have a variety of notebooks and accessories for Traveler’s Notebooks in their Etsy shop.
