TWSBI, well-known for their fountain pens with piston-filling mechanism, have now joined the cartridge-converter game. The first in this product line will be called the TWSBI Swipe.
This is an entry-level fountain pen that will forgo the traditional TWSBI design. You will be able to use your standard international converters but you can also opt to use TWSBI’s spring loaded converter.
The design of the new TWSBI Swipe is similar to the TWSBI Go. You can say that the Swipe is a cartridge-converter version of the Go.
Based on some retailers’ announcements, TWSBI Swipe will come in the same colors as the Go – gray and the blue.
Rediscover Analog reached out to TWSBI to confirm color variants. According to them, the initial release for the Swipe will be called “Smoke” and “Prussian Blue”.
They have also specified on their Facebook announcement that the size of the nib would be the #4 (same as the Eco).
Let’s talk about that spring-loaded converter
TWSBI’s spring-loaded converter will also be available as a separate accessory, should you want to purchase more than what is included in the set.
We asked if it will fit other fountain pens (without proprietary cartridges i.e. Lamy, Pilot, Platinum). The TWSBI representative mentioned that it could fit but they did not test the fit on other fountain pens. The fountain pen community will definitely test this out, that’s for sure – so stay tuned!
How much will it cost?
According to their initial announcement, the Swipe will cost $26.99 in North America models, which include the traditional converter, spring-loaded converter, and an ink cartridge.
For the rest of the world, it will be priced around $22.99 sans the special spring-loaded traditional converter (I would assume this will be sold separately)
As of July 14, TWSBI announced on Instagram – “The pen, a black cartridge, spring converter, traditional converter, will all come in one package together (North America $26.99). The Pen, a black cartridge, spring converter will be in one package (rest of the world, $22.99). You can also purchase extra converters and cartridge packs separately (standard international sizing)”
