The quarantine era has definitely shifted people’s plans, priorities, and perspective. Someone had told me on Instagram that “every day is a Sunday” ever since the quarantine started. By that, they probably meant that there’s nothing really going on lately enough for some to use a Bullet Journal these days.
The template
In most tech companies, there is a 15-minute daily meeting called the “daily scrum meeting“. The purpose of this meeting for team members to synchronize activities and inspect progress towards the project’s goal. There are 3 important questions that the team members should answer every single day:
- What did you do yesterday?
- What will you do today?
- Are there any impediments?
I have been participating in daily scrum meetings for years now. Since I use my Bullet Journal regularly, I use it as reference when I participate in Scrum Meetings. However, there are some days when I have difficulty recalling the answers to those questions especially because I hadn’t written it down in my Bullet Journal. It was then that I realized that I could use those questions as a journal prompt.
Applying the template in your Bullet Journal
The template can work on a weekly log format or a daily log. In your daily log, you can answer the same questions.
- What did you do yesterday?
- Yesterday, I played Animal Crossing: New Horizons
- What are you going to do today?
- I will read The Bullet Journal Method today
- Anything you need help with? (Optional)
- I need help with what food to prepare for next week
Looks, simple, right?
Why do this?
At the beginning of this exercise, you might notice that you would write in phrases or short sentences. That’s normal especially if you had just started to find the motivation to write in your Bullet Journal again. Once you get the hang of it, you will find yourself writing more than what you’ve written when you started this exercise.
If you have nothing to write, try to write anyway! If you didn’t do anything yesterday, just write that you didn’t do anything yesterday. Do not feel any pressure to be productive – your Bullet Journal isn’t built for productivity alone. It is meant to help you reflect and live an intentional life.
